In response to the UP Administration’s call for a healthy lifestyle and wellness for its personnel through training programs and seminar-workshops, the UP NISMED Healthy Lifestyle and Wellness Committee (HLWC) organized a half-day seminar-workshop on Body and Mind Wellness and Empowerment. This was held on 11 October 2016 at the Dolores F. Hernandez Hall, Science Teacher Training Center, UP NISMED with a total of 60 participants.
Two speakers from the University of the Philippines Diliman were invited to share their expertise. They were Dr. Violeta “Bolet” Villaroman-Bautista, Director of the Office of Counselling and Guidance and Ms. Ruth Agnes Manalo, Resident Nutritionist and Dietitian of the University Health Service.
Dr. Bautista’s presentation titled, Detox Your Life: Stress Management for Busy People focused mainly on how to deal with stress effectively. According to her, managing stress requires living a wholesome, competent, and healthy lifestyle which is the best detoxification technique.
Ms. Manalo talked on the Right Food Choices for All Ages. She emphasized that the same nutrients are needed by people of all ages. She further explained the benefits of eating various kinds of vegetables and fruits daily. She also stressed that healthy eating is more important than dieting. Apart from eating healthy foods, an active lifestyle, healthy habits like sleeping 8 hours a day, refraining from smoking, and regular medical checkups were also recommended.
The UP NISMED HLWC is composed of four members: Ms. Lolita M. Mondigo of the Audiovisual Group (Chair), Ms. Ivy P. Mejia of the Earth and Environmental Science Group, Mr. John Alex M. Reyroso of the Information Science Group, and Ms. Rose Kathlyn G. Sinamban of the Property Section. Dr. Monalisa T. Sasing, Deputy Director for Administration serves as adviser of the UP NISMED HLWC.
