The UP National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development (UP NISMED) celebrated its 54th anniversary on 20 November 2018. The events included a mass followed by a public lecture in the morning, and a loyalty recognition program in the afternoon.
Dr. Dina Ocampo, Faculty and former Dean of the College of Education, delivered the public lecture titled “Owning Education Reform.” In the lecture, she elaborated the efforts made by the Department of Education and other collaborating agencies in developing the K-12 curriculum.
To conclude the first half of the day, a scrumptious lunch was shared and enjoyed by staff and guests.
In the afternoon, a recognition program was held for staff for their continued loyalty and commitment to the Institute. The primary awardees were Francisca C. Pio and Arnul M. Magdurulan who have both faithfully served the Institute for 40 years. The other awardees were Rodolfo S. Treyes (35 years), Rizaldo Ramoncito S. Saliva and Angelie S. Domingo (30 years), Joseph M. Galdiano and Monalisa T. Sasing (25 years), Cherry A. Velasco and Nelson O. Mariano (20 years) and Dana M. Ong (15 years). Each of the awardee was given a certificate of appreciation and a bromeliad plant.
The celebration was not without fun. Anthony M. Urbano led the “Action Words” game where a member of a team guessed two actions performed simultaneously by a member of the opposing team. Some players performed the actions gawkily resulting in bursts of laughter among the audience.
To cap the day, Mr. Eligio Obille Jr. delivered a closing remark particularly inspiring the younger staff to continue to serve the country through the Institute.
